11 to 16 Year Old Classes

Term Class Options:

Small Group Classes (for two to four students) – generally suitable for students aged 8 to 12 (unless an older and younger brother or sister would like to work together) who are interested in learning about vocal technique but within a social setting. Available at Hawthorn, Sandringham, Flemington and Bentleigh venues

Holiday Workshop

Three Day Singing Workshop (for 11 to 16 year olds):

Led by senior teachers these workshops are designed to challenge students vocally and musically. The content assists in the growth of their musicianship; they work on individual repertoire and receive a written vocal assessment during the course of the workshop. The workshop provides students with a lot of knowledge and experience so significantly increases students’ confidence.

Group work assists students mastering pitch skills and the focus on performance adds another dimension to the content. On the fourth day of the workshop student’s work with a microphone, learn more about tone and using the microphone to create different sounds with their voice through experimentation.

The content of these workshops is a great compliment to the regular term classes and the workshops are equally suitable for students just starting out. There is a performance held for friends and family at the conclusion of the workshop.

Childrens' Weekend Workshop

Weekend Working with Musicians Workshop - held in a professional rehearsal room so participants can experience the real thing this workshop takes the next step for more advanced students. Senior teachers Karen Knowles and Nick Roy will lead participants through the process of singing as a musician, amending vocal delivery and dynamics according to the input and changes in musical structure offered by the small band. A great challenge suitable for participants wishing to experience the first steps of improvising with musicians and taking the next steps towards performance. The Next Workshop will be held in March 2010 - be sure to register your interest early. Suitable for students aged 10 to 18.

Songwriting Workshop

Two Day Workshop (for 12 to 18 year olds):

Led by Nick Roy with input from Karen Knowles, this workshop will be a comprehensive introduction to the art of Songwriting, covering a range of aspects from the initial creative process to the ultimate performance of original material. The course requires no previous musical experience, just an open mind and a keen interest in songwriting. Over the four days Nick will cover the analysis of different song styles, song structure, brainstorming, use of language (alliteration, rhyming etc), musical devices, simple chord structure, instrumentation etc. through to song performance and delivery.
